Overview
Adventure seekers, dog and nature lovers, this tour has something for everyone and introduces you to this unique sport offering an incredible blend of excitement, education and natural beauty!
Starting at your helicopter base, your adventure begins as you gear up with your glacier boots, safety vest and watch the safety briefing. Following this, you are ready for lift off in your helicopter.
Leaving the historic Skagway waterfront, enjoy the breathtaking views, as your pilot will guide you over the Taiya Inlet and through the mountains to the Denver Glacier. Take in the spectacular Alaskan wilderness before landing on the Denver Glacier, and on arrival expect a warm welcome from an experienced musher and their team of sled dogs!
Get ready for an exciting time at the Glacier on this small group tour. Your musher will teach you about the dog sledding equipment and gear, as you hear the tales of the trail and of course meet the dogs. During this immersive experience, you will learn about the training and bonding that exists between musher and their dogs. They will narrate firsthand their personal racing stories and of course interact with the dogs as you learn how to prepare a sled dog team for a race. From harnessing the excitable pups and discover the training techniques and get to know their adorable personalities. What an adventure as you learn about life of an Iditarod champion!
Ready, set, go! As the team sets off, you will watch the action as the elite athlete's dash across the glacier with their musher! Capture memorable photos of this incredible sport as you watch the demonstration, and the best is yet to come.
Afterwards you will get to meet the future Iditarod champions – the puppies! Time for cuddles, and photos alongside the beautiful glacier landscape. You may not want to leave but your helicopter is waiting for your return flight to Skagway. Step aboard and take in the final views of this incredible landscape. You will de-gear upon your return to the helicopter base, ready to return to your cruise ship, with unbelievable memories.
*PLEASE NOTE: Due to glacier conditions, you will not be able to ride on the dog sled cart yourselves. The tour only includes a demonstration by the guides.
