Discover Europe’s highest active volcano, Mount Etna, with its striking ancient lava flows and dramatic volcanic landscapes.
After meeting your local tour guide at the port, you’ll board your vehicle for a panoramic drive that ascends to 1,900 meters above sea level. Along the way, you’ll pass through the charming towns of Piedimonte Etneo and Linguaglossa, both known for streets paved with basaltic lava blocks.
Once on the volcano, you’ll have the opportunity to walk on the 2002 lava flow and witness firsthand how the eruption reshaped the area, destroying the former tourist station, several souvenir shops, and one of the most iconic hotels of the time. Mount Etna’s mineral-rich volcanic soil also provides ideal conditions for unique local products such as honey, sweet and savory spreads, liqueurs, and wines.
After exploring Etna, enjoy a scenic 1-hour and 10-minute drive to Taormina, the crowned jewel of Sicily’s east coast and often called the Pearl of the Mediterranean. Here you’ll have free time to stroll along the elegant Corso Umberto, lined with historic buildings, churches, boutiques, and restaurants where you can savor authentic Sicilian cuisine.
For archaeology enthusiasts, a visit to the Ancient Greek Roman Theatre is a must (ticket available for purchase on-site). This is the second-largest theatre in Sicily and offers breathtaking views of Mount Etna and the Ionian coastline.
Another gem of Taormina is its lush Public Gardens, created in the late 1800s by British noblewoman Lady Florence Trevelyan. These botanical gardens are home to beautiful plants, flowers, and serene pathways perfect for a relaxing stroll.
