Overview
You will be picked up directly from the Kochi Port ship’s berth and begin your journey into the historic heart of Fort Kochi.
Your first stop is the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets, introduced by traders from the court of Kublai Khan in the 14th century.
These massive shore-operated nets are still used today and remain one of Kochi’s most photographed landmarks.
Continue your walk to St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India, built in 1503 by Portuguese friars.
The church is historically significant as the original burial site of Vasco da Gama, the famed Portuguese explorer who opened the sea route from Europe to India.
Next, visit the magnificent Santa Cruz Basilica, one of the largest and most impressive churches in the country.
Admire its striking white exterior, twin spires, and richly decorated interior featuring frescoes, murals, and paintings depicting scenes from the life of Jesus Christ.
Proceed to a local laundry (Dhobi Khanna) to observe a traditional washing process that has been practiced for generations.
Your tour continues to Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace. Built by the Portuguese in 1555 and gifted to the Raja of Kochi, the palace is renowned for its exquisite murals illustrating episodes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
Adjacent to the palace is the historic Paradesi Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in South India.
Inside, admire the ornate brass pulpit, Belgian glass chandelier, and hand-painted Chinese porcelain floor tiles.
Before concluding the tour, enjoy free time in Jew Town, once a thriving center of the spice trade.
Stroll through its narrow streets, breathe in the aromas of ginger, cardamom, turmeric, and cloves, and browse shops selling spices, handicrafts, and antiques. If time permits, you may also enjoy a casual lunch.
At the end of the tour, you will be comfortably transferred back to Kochi Port in time to board your cruise.
