Overview
Embark on a fascinating and mystical tour of one of the most famous cities in India, formerly known as Bombay, this tour will offer the best sites of Mumbai in a short time.
We begin our journey by visiting one of the most famous landmarks in Mumbai - the Gateway of India. This magnificent arch-monument completed in 1924 is the starting point for most tourists who want to explore the city and it is here we will disembark the coach, with your local guide on hand to provide in-depth knowledge and history of the monument and surrounding area.
Just around the corner is the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. The hotel's original building was commissioned by Jamshedji Tata and first opened its doors to guests on 16 December 1903.
Our next stop is to visit Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train station (a UNESCO world heritage site). This awe-inspiring and bustling station has been made famous over the years as the prime location for many films.
We continue our journey to catch a glimpse of the renowned open-air laundry - 'Dhobi Ghat'. It is here your guide will point out the details of the laundry; how it is sorted, washed and delivered on such a mammoth scale. You will also get an insight into the local workers' homes and way of life. A most fascinating place to visit.
We make our way to none other than Mahatma Gandhi's home in Mumbai - otherwise known as Mani Bhavan. You will discover the most fascinating and captivating stories of this legend; see his original clothes, footwear, where he slept, and of course, his renowned library - completely overflowing with books. Your guide will journey you through Gandhi's life throughout the decades and the fatal day Gandhi was assassinated in 1948.
We will also make note of other points of interest during the drive such as Kamala Nehru Park at Malabar Hill, the best point in the city to view the skyline of Mumbai.
As we come to the tour's conclusion, we will make our way around Marine Drive - also known as the 'Queens Necklace', getting it's nickname when viewed at night from an elevated point the street lights resemble a string of pearls in a necklace.
At the end of your tour, you will be driven back to the port in plenty of time for your cruise ships departure.
