Your half-day excursion starts with a visit to the Clan Jetties, a village including homes built on stilts. These were built by the Chinese immigrants actively involved in the history of the island. The next stop is the impressive Reclining Buddha Temple, a traditional Thai Buddhist temple that features the fourth-largest reclining Buddha in the world. This magnificent, gold-covered statue is over one hundred feet long and is truly an amazing sight to behold.
Continuing your tour, you will head to the lush Tropical Spice Garden, which is home to more than 500 species of native and exotic plants. It that will take you on an aromatic journey and have your senses and palate spiced up. Spread over a magnificent eight acres, it boasts three trails and 11 garden rooms where you can view their staggering collection of herbs, spices, bamboos, ginger plants, heliconias, and orchids.
Your tour then continues with a visit to the Batik factory (a local textile industry) and here you will enjoy a delightful demonstration of this traditional art of printing fabric using dyes and wax. There will also be an opportunity for you to buy Batik fabrics and goods, should you wish to do so.
Your journey back to the port will take you past the Esplanade and Fort Cornwallis. Dotted with many colonial memories, it will give you an idea of life in Malaysia under British rule.
