Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from the pier to Rihanna Drive, named in honor of the international superstar who was born on this very street. Nestled on the outskirts of Bridgetown, this colorful West Indian-style backstreet offers a glimpse into Rihanna's early life. Pause for a photo at her childhood home, and view the monument at the top of the street, a proud tribute to one of Barbados’ most famous daughters.
Next, travel along the Mighty Gryner Highway to Holetown, the site where the first English settlers arrived in 1627. Steeped in colonial history and coastal charm, Holetown remains a key location in Barbados' heritage. From there, we visit the St. James Parish Church, one of the four oldest surviving churches on the island. This serene, centuries-old structure is rich in history, from its ancient church bell that predates the Liberty Bell to its surrounding cemetery, where some of the island’s earliest settlers now rest.
As we continue our journey, we’ll pass through charming local villages, each boasting traditional Barbadian architecture, vibrant colors, and perhaps even a sighting of the island’s elusive green monkeys, often seen leaping through the trees.
Our next destination is Speightstown, the island’s second-largest town and a living museum of colonial-era architecture. Take time to stroll through its historic streets, explore St. Peter’s Parish Church, or walk along the seafront boardwalk while enjoying views of the calm, shimmering Caribbean Sea. The town buzzes with authentic island life, from local vendors selling fresh produce to the laid-back rhythm of coastal living.
The tour continues past Port Ferdinand and through shady country roads lined with majestic mahogany trees, eventually leading to the spectacular St. Nicholas Abbey, a beautifully preserved 17th-century plantation house and one of the island’s true architectural gems.
Finally, ascend to Cherry Tree Hill, a scenic overlook offering sweeping views of the Scotland District, a region of lush, rolling hills and dramatic coastal beauty. This peaceful spot provides a perfect photo opportunity and a moment to take in the island’s diverse and stunning landscape.
At the designated time, your transportation will return you comfortably to the pier, with time to spare before your cruise ship's departure.
