Overview
When planning a visit to Belize, the first thing that comes to mind is its ancient Mayan roots and the intricate temples and towns that still stand today, attracting many visitors who come for a view into Belizes past and leave with a deeper cultural understanding of Mayan civilization.
After meeting your guide, we will begin with a van ride to the Altun Ha Mayan Ruins.
Passing through Belize City, we'll continue on through Belizes tropical jungle en route to the Altun Ha Mayan Ruins.
Upon arrival, you will be awed by the panoramic views and the sheer enormity of this ancient wonder.
Unravel secrets from the past as you climb the highest temple.
Don't forget your camera!
These pictures will be worthy of framing back home.
With a cultural emphasis on social rituals, mathematics, and understanding greater powers, the Mayans are known for intricate tombs that reveal a society that values respect and honor.
Perhaps the most famous tomb at Altun Ha is located in the Temple of the Masonry Altars.
Here, archaeologists discovered a jade head of Kinich Ahau, the Sun God. Weighing 10 lbs., this discovery proved to be the largest jade artifact uncovered to date, a true testament to the advanced Mayan society of the time.
Now that you have a deeper understanding of the history of Belize, we will continue on to enjoy an off-road Jeep adventure like no other.
Dirt roads are calling your name.
Prepare to get a little muddy and embrace the spirit of an off-road experience.
Your guide will point out wildlife, including colorful birds and the flora and fauna that are unique to a tropical jungle.
We'll take a break to explore a Mayan cave where you will be awed by natural crystalline rock formations.
Before we end our day, you will be treated to a delicious Belize-style lunch.
You will have time to cool off in the Sibun River or peruse the Belize souvenir shop.
Relax and enjoy your time in beautiful Belize.
