What better way to see the inside of a historic colonial town than by horse-drawn carriage.
This was once the traditional method of transportation here in Cartagena and you can relive that history in your own private carriage.
Ride in comfort from your arrival location to the Old City.
Once there, you will find yourself in the midst of the bustle, close enough to overhear the locals but yet be separate from your own driver.
Your professional guide will take the journey with you, detailing the past history with its incredible architecture for a 45-minute tour. You will find the architecture lovely with decorated balconies, beautiful monasteries, churches, palaces, and plazas.
You will travel through the narrow streets, window shop from your carriage, and take in the energy of this city.
Finally, you will make a stop at Las Bovedas, translated as The Vaults. It was one of the major constructions during the colonial times and was originally built to be dungeons for ammunition storage and prison cells during the 19th-century Civil Wars.
Now the dungeons have been converted to small shops, boutiques, and other specialty businesses. Enjoy about 30 minutes to purchase some distinctive handicrafts and other cultural goods from local vendors.
The artisans are very prolific and creative and make some beautiful items that travel well and are priced right.
You will finally move back to your original mode of transportation which will take you to your starting point.
This is a perfect excursion for those who want to get a little closer to the highlights of the old city but would not enjoy a walking tour.
