Your first destination is Middleham Falls, one of the tallest and most awe-inspiring waterfalls in Dominica. To reach this natural wonder, you’ll embark on a moderately challenging hike through pristine rainforest. The trail winds beneath towering trees, over moss-covered rocks, and alongside babbling streams, all while surrounded by the calls of native birds and the scent of tropical foliage. After approximately 45 minutes, you’ll arrive at the base of the falls, where water plunges nearly 200 feet into a clear pool below. Take in the refreshing mist, snap some incredible photos, or simply enjoy a moment of peace in this magical setting.
Next, journey higher into the mountains to visit Freshwater Lake, Dominica’s largest mountain lake. Nestled in the cool, misty cloud forest, the lake is a serene and mystical place, often shrouded in fog with lush greenery all around. You'll have time to walk around part of the shoreline, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and appreciate the quiet beauty of this elevated ecosystem.
To complete your nature-filled day, head back toward the capital for a leisurely visit to Dominica’s Botanical Gardens in Roseau. This peaceful haven offers a look at the island’s native flora, medicinal plants, and towering tropical trees. Don’t miss the famous bus crushed beneath a massive baobab tree during Hurricane David, a striking reminder of nature’s power and resilience.
