Overview

Once you have boarded the vehicle there will be a short drive to Columbus Square where we will commence our walking tour.

Plaza Colon in the old town of San Juan is edged with tall trees and pavement cafes and is also referred to as Columbus square.
It stands on the site of one of the city's original gated entries, Puerta Santiago and is home to the Columbus Monument created in 1893.
Featuring a large statue of Christopher Columbus, it was installed to commemorates the 400th anniversary of the discovery of Puerto Rico by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the new world.

To the South of the square is our next point of interest the Teatro Tapia one of the oldest continuously operating theaters in the region, built in the shape of a horse-shoe and Italian in style, the Teatro Tapia stands proud as a monument that represents the wealth of the city's culture and theatre.

From here you will continue on to Paseo de la Princesa, known as San Juan's most beautiful promenade, the tree lined path is home to artisan stalls and street vendors and follows the curved city walls on the south side of old San Juan and a stunning view across the bay on the other, as you walk down the promenade you'll arrive at Raíces fountain.
Constructed in 1992 it takes its name from the Spanish word for "roots" and was designed to commemorate the New Worlds 500th anniversary.
It is considered to be one of the most romantic spots in the old town.

The next stop is Capilla del Santo Cristo de la Salud, hidden away in the corner of the old walled city is this tiny Chapel, one of the most secluded monuments in the capital and thought to have been built on a site of divine intervention!
You'll continue from here to La Fortaleza home to the Governor of Puerto Rico and on to Hotel El Convento, a 350-year-old former Carmelite convent in the heart of San Juan.
Hotel El Convento is an alluring mix of Spanish colonial architecture and as the title suggests now a Hotel.

You'll continue on to the Cathedral de San Juan Bautista a not to be missed historical landmark and the second oldest Cathedral in all the Americas, before stopping at Casa Blanca, originally built in 1521 as the main residence for Puerto Rico's first governor, this landmark is Old San Juan's oldest residence.
These days it is home to a museum housing 16th and 17th-century artifacts.

As you start to near the end of the tour, you'll visit Castillo San Felipe del Morro, entering through the gates is like stepping back in time, the most recognized landmark in Puerto Rico with breath-taking views of the Atlantic and colorful walled islet, this stone fortress was originally built and used by Spanish colonialists to defend against attacks from the sea.
From the late 19th century until 1961, El Morro was occupied by the American Military service and operated as an active military base for both World War I and II.
Today, the site has UNESCO World Heritage status.

Your final stops of the tour will be Cementerio Santa María Magdalena de Pazzi, this colonial era cemetery may be one of the most picturesque burial grounds ever.
Located outside the city walls, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and lastly Castillo San Cristóbal, this fortress was built to guard the city from enemies approaching by land, serving as a counterpart to your the earlier visited Castillo San Felipe del Morro.

You'll then re board the vehicle to head back to the cruise port in plenty of time for your cruise ships departure.
