Overview
This private tour commences from the port of Livorno and takes you directly to the town of Pisa - with a travel time of around 30 minutes.
You will be dropped off right in front of the imposing and worldwide famous leaning tower, questioning yourself how this structure is defying any law of physics that exist. The construction started around 1173, when the city of Pisa was going through a period of prosperity and economic growth and the work has been initially commissioned to Guglielmo and Bonanno Pisano.
After building the first floors, due to unstable subsoil, the tower began to sink into the ground which left the architects no choice but to put on hold their work. Allowing some time for the soil to settle, construction began again and then paused a few times. The last floor has been completed in 1372 by Tommaso di Andrea Pisano, known for its style and attention to details, he imprinted a gothic/Romanesque architectural features to the finished bell tower. Since then, it has never fallen yet but scientific researches claim that the tower leans every year by a few millimeters. The bell tower is a separate structure from the rest of square which carries the name of Piazza dei Miracoli (Miracles Square), due to harmonious composition of marble masterpieces still intact that can be defined as wonders of human art.
This tour allows you to personally witness these creations as an open museum, where you can wander around, take pictures or relax for some Italian coffee at your own leisure. At the end of your free time, you will be picked up again near the tower and taken back to the cruise port.
