Overview
Your day begins with pickup directly from your cruise ship, followed by a short safety and tour briefing. From there, you will travel toward Namib-Naukluft National Park, one of Africa’s most spectacular natural areas.
The first stop is the tranquil Walvis Bay Lagoon, a designated RAMSAR wetland site and an important habitat for birdlife. Depending on the season, the lagoon can be home to up to 250,000 flamingos, along with pelicans, avocets, and many other bird species.
Next, you will stop near the Walvis Bay Salt Refinery, the largest solar evaporation salt plant in Africa, producing up to 750,000 tons of salt per year. This impressive industrial landscape offers a unique contrast to the surrounding natural scenery.
The journey continues along the coastline toward Sandwich Harbour, with an exciting beach drive leading into Namib-Naukluft National Park, the largest national park in Africa, covering approximately 49,000 square kilometers. This area also marks the former border between Namibia and South Africa.
After driving along the coast, you will reach a narrow passage near Sandwich Bay, one of the most dramatic sights in Namibia, where the towering Namib Desert dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean. There will be time to stop for photographs before continuing to Sandwich Harbour Lagoon.
Once at the lagoon, you will have time to explore this extraordinary landscape. Your guide will drive up dunes rising up to 100 meters high to find the best panoramic viewpoints.
If weather conditions permit, lunch will be set up at the lagoon. In case of unfavorable weather, lunch will be served at a sheltered location in the desert. After lunch, enjoy a relaxed return drive toward Walvis Bay while keeping an eye out for local wildlife.
