Our adventure begins at the Tasman National Park Lookout, where we pause to admire the rugged coastline and dramatic cliffs. With the wild Southern Ocean stretching before us, it’s easy to understand why this remote peninsula was once considered an almost inescapable prison for early convicts.
Next, we visit the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo, where you’ll come face-to-face with one of Tasmania’s most iconic residents. Watch these feisty little marsupials in action during a Tassie Devil Feeding Show, and see them display their famous snarling personalities. There’s also time to hand-feed wallabies and discover more about Tasmania’s unique wildlife from the passionate and knowledgeable Unzoo team.
From wildlife to history, our next stop is Port Arthur Historic Site, one of Australia’s most significant heritage sites and a UNESCO World Heritage-listed destination. This remarkable open-air museum brings Tasmania’s convict past to life through beautifully preserved ruins, historic buildings and stories of the people who lived and worked here.
Explore the imposing main penitentiary, wander past the solitary confinement cells and listen to fascinating site talks from Port Arthur’s expert staff. Your visit also includes a complimentary harbour cruise around the Isle of the Dead, offering a unique perspective on this extraordinary historic landscape.
