Overview
Just 1.5 hours from Hobart, Mount Field National Park is one of Tasmania’s oldest and most beautiful national parks, where lush temperate rainforest gives way to moody alpine moorland, towering trees and tumbling waterfalls. It’s also home to some of the state’s best short walks.
We begin with the Three Waterfalls Trail, led by your Eco-Certified Tour Guide, taking you deep into the rainforest to discover some of Mount Field’s most spectacular scenery.
First up is Russell Falls, where an easy walk follows a peaceful stream through the forest before arriving at one of Tasmania’s most iconic waterfalls. Watch as the water cascades gracefully over three distinct tiers, surrounded by towering tree ferns and lush rainforest.
From Russell Falls, a short climb up the forest stairs brings us to Horseshoe Falls. Smaller and tucked away among the ferns, this beautiful cascade has a charm all of its own, and some say it’s even more impressive than Russell Falls. You can decide for yourself!
We then continue to the Tall Trees Track, walking beneath enormous Swamp Gums that soar more than 80 metres into the sky. Among the tallest flowering plants on Earth, these ancient giants give you a real sense of the scale and wildness of Tasmania’s forests.
After working up an appetite, we’ll take a short lunch break in the National Park before continuing our journey to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, just outside Hobart.
At Bonorong, get up close to some of Tasmania’s most beloved native animals. Hand-feed free-roaming kangaroos and wallabies, and meet resident wombats and echidnas as Bonorong’s expert keepers share fascinating stories about the animals in their care.
And, of course, no Tasmanian wildlife experience would be complete without meeting the famous Tasmanian Devil. Get to know one of Bonorong’s most mischievous and much-loved residents before we make our way back to Hobart in time to board your ship.
This fantastic small-group adventure combines waterfalls, rainforest, towering trees and unforgettable wildlife, giving you the chance to experience some of Tasmania’s most iconic natural wonders in a single day.
