Overview
Discover Napier's world famous Art Deco district as we drive towards a city lookout and through the main city streets with your professional guide. This tour is filled with many photo opportunities of this unique architectural style and iconic buildings. Napier still boasts today 140 original 1930s Art Deco buildings in the city alone, attracting visitors from all over the world. Feel the atmosphere as you step back in time while having the opportunity to also stroll by on the main street of Napier at the completion of your tour.
We will then head out of the suburbs and into the countryside. See for yourself why this area is so picturesque and home to the oldest wine region in New Zealand. You may spot sheep, cattle, alpaca and donkeys mixed in with orchards and vineyards. You may also see domesticated deer also farmed in the area, as New Zealand is home to the largest number of domesticated deer in the world. We will have a chance to stop for perhaps the best photograph on the tour - looking down the valley with Te Mata peak in the background. Pass the rolling vineyards as you drive towards Te Mata peak, with a stop to take in the views across Hawkes Bay and beyond. Learn the Maori legend of the peak, the "Sleeping Giant."
We will visit a honey factory where you will explore the many items derived from honey. You will taste unique honey flavors, including the world-famous Manuka Honey.
We then continue our drive towards Napier via the Art Deco city of Hastings. Arriving in Napier, you will drive down a block of lovingly kept art deco homes. You will then have the option of being returned to your ship's shuttle or spending more time in the heart of the art deco city, where you will catch the returning shuttle from the top of the main street.
As we head back to Napier, you will receive a token souvenir to help you remember the wonderful time you spent in this unique destination.
