Overview
The number and variety of dive sites found in the ocean waters of Tahiti are almost endless.
The deeper water attracts larger fish and marine life, drawn to nooks and crannies found among the canyons, caverns, and drop-offs.
These waters provide an ideal environment for several species of dolphins, including bottle-nosed, spinner, and rough-toothed dolphins.
You'll view elegant rays, such as manta, eagle, and leopard, and find Moray eels, triggerfish, and turtles gliding among the coral reefs.
But perhaps most well-known in these waters are sharks. Admired and respected by the Polynesian people as an important part of the ecosystem, the French Polynesian government has given them protected status.
Whether reef, lemon, white or black tip, or tiger sharks, your divemaster will explain the best way to observe these often misunderstood animals without putting them or yourself in danger.
With so many sites to choose from, your divemaster will determine the best location for the day, based on water and weather conditions, your experience level, and that of your fellow divers. If all parameters are good to go, the morning departure time often includes a deep dive.
