Overview
Your professional guide welcomes you at the cruise terminal where your exciting tour begins.
Board your transport and journey to Otari-Wilton’s Bush - the only botanical garden in New Zealand! Discover what the landscapes were like in this ancient setting and enjoy views across the skybridge. Your guide introduces you to the unique flora and fauna of this part of the world, and you may even see native birds such as Kakariki, Kereru, Tui or Kaka.
From here you travel on towards the south coast, via the private access at Terawhiti Station - one of the oldest and largest stations in New Zealand. Expect to see New Zealand sheep, cows and goats en route, and prepare for breathtaking views.
Your guide will point out the Cook Strait, Kaikoura Ranges and the South Island once you reach the top, you will discover first hand how it became known as Windy Welly!
Throughout your tour, your guide will narrate stories of history, farming and more, as you discover this unique region. From farmland to the sea, you will see the distant Karori rock lighthouse. Locally known as the ancient ‘leaning lighthouse’ - the clue is in the name!
Enjoy the coastal views and journey across the rocky, sandy track towards Tongue Point - ready for your trip highlight - the colony of native New Zealand Fur Seals!
Here, you will leave your transport and walk to the beach and see the delightful fur seals in their natural habitat on the beach. At a safe distance you will learn about the conservation efforts that have led to their increase in numbers, and more.
A wonderful experience as you admire them and capture your memorable photos, and if your visit is in the springtime you may see baby seals! There is time to enjoy some light refreshments, and views of the ferries crossing.
Your return journey takes the same route, for your final views and stories across farm land and fault lines and learn about the regions Kiwi project.
You will return to Wellington with unforgettable memories!
This tour is suited for both cruise and land based guests.
