Overview
Visit the world’s largest continental colony of Magellanic penguins at Punta Tombo Nature Reserve, a protected sanctuary that hosts hundreds of thousands of penguins each breeding season, from September to March.
Every year, penguins arrive at Punta Tombo to nest, mate, raise their chicks, and prepare for migration. You'll walk a marked 3-kilometer trail among the penguins, observing their natural behaviors up close, from burrow digging and nest building to feeding and parenting.
Tour Details:
After disembarking, meet your guide 30 minutes after ship arrival, just outside the port.
The drive to Punta Tombo takes 2 hours and 15–30 minutes, including a rest stop in Trelew.
Upon arrival, you’ll have 1.5 to 2 hours to explore the trail and enjoy time among the penguins.
A second restroom stop is available before the walk.
The group will return to Puerto Madryn with a buffer of at least 1 hour before cruise departure.
If time allows, a brief city tour of Puerto Madryn may be included at the end.
