Overview
Step back in time and explore some of the most fascinating ancient sites in Turkey on this private guided tour—from the sacred sanctuary of Didyma to the legendary ruins of Ephesus, and the remarkable Ephesus Archaeological Museum.
Didyma – Sanctuary of Apollo
Your journey begins with a visit to Didyma, a site of immense historical and mythological importance. The name Didyma means “twins”, and according to legend, it was the meeting place of Zeus and Leto, where their twin children Apollo and Artemis were conceived.
Didyma was once a major prophecy center dedicated to Apollo, serving a similar purpose in Anatolia as Delphi did in Greece. Though not a city, Didyma was an important sanctuary connected to the ancient city of Miletus via a 19 km (12 mile) sacred road. You'll explore the ruins of the once-grand Temple of Apollo, a place of mystery and divine connection.
Ephesus – A Walk Through Ancient Marvels
Next, travel to the Ephesus archaeological area, where you’ll begin your walking tour from the upper gate, descending through the ancient marble streets that once bustled with Roman life.
Explore highlights such as:
The Baths of Scholastica
The beautifully restored Library of Celsus, built in the 2nd century A.D. as a tribute by Gaius Julius Aquila to his father
The impressive Temple of Hadrian
The massive Grand Theatre, originally constructed in the 3rd century B.C. and later expanded to hold up to 24,000 spectators by the Romans
This city was once one of the largest in the Roman Empire, and the remarkably preserved structures offer a vivid glimpse into daily life over 2,000 years ago.
Free Time in Ephesus Area
After your guided exploration, enjoy some free time to browse local souvenir shops or relax at nearby cafés. Take a moment to reflect on the wonders you’ve just walked through.
Ephesus Archaeological Museum – Selçuk
Your final stop is the Ephesus Archaeological Museum, just a short drive away in Selçuk Town. This beautifully curated museum is home to a wealth of artifacts recovered from the Ephesus excavation site. Highlights include the iconic Statue of Artemis, goddess of the hunt and fertility, once housed in her grand temple at Ephesus.
