Walking Tour of Downtown NassauNASSAU BAHAMAS - Tours & Shore Excursions
This walking tour is perfect to immerse yourself into the historic Bahamian architecture and history of Downtown Nassau. There are many points of interest to discover as you stroll the streets and take in the islands culture.
You will experience a climb up the 66 limestone steps to the top of the Queens Staircase and take in the stunning views at Fort Fincastle near the historic canons and view the Water Tower from the outside. A perfect place to capture photos and take in the views of Nassau harbor.
A stop at Government House (exterior) as you learn it's history and then a visit to the Colonial Graycliff Hotel for more historical facts! Look out for the beautiful installation of hanging umbrellas that sits between the winery and the restaurant.
Next, enjoy a visit to the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas (excluding Mondays) and discover a rotating exhibit of artwork and sculptures by local Bahamian artists. From art to rum, discover how rum is made, bottled and even enjoy a sample as you experience a factory tour of John Watlings Distillery.
Your guide takes you to enjoy a scenic walk along the Wharf, your next stop is the well known Straw Market. There is time to look around the many handicrafts of local vendors. Authentic locally made items such as straw hats, wood carvings and much more, you may want to purchase a souvenir!
From here walk through Parliament Square to hear about the historical significance of Queen Victoria’s Statue and the buildings that serve as our courts and political seats. This is the final stop before returning your ear sets and saying farewell to your guide. If time permits you can stay in the downtown area for shopping or food, or return to your cruise port at your leisure.
