Overview
Your Essential Collection shore excursion begins when your representative welcomes you at the cruise port.
Our journey commences with a drive from the port of Souda to our first stop at the Agia Triada (Holy Trinity) Tzagaroli Monastery.
Agia Triada was built in the 17th century by two brothers of the Venetian Zangaroli family. We'll marvel in awe at the architecture of the monastery - it was built in the Byzantine cruciform style with three domes.
Here we'll also find a library with filled rare books, and a museum that contains a collection of fascinating icons, codices and much more. You will have the opportunity to purchase local wine and olive oil produced by Monks of the monastery.
We'll then continue for a short photo stop in Venizelos - where we'll enjoy stunning panoramic views over Chania Bay before reaching the old town, crumbling harbor and 15th-Century lighthouse of Chania Town.
Chania, the most beautiful urban district of Crete, was once surrounded by Venetian fortifications - the western and eastern parts of which still stand today.
We'll meander through colourful neighborhoods and visit important sites such as the Archaeological Museum, the Cathedral, the Leather Lane, the Market Hall and other hidden gems - truly giving you the most authentic taste of the unique atmosphere and eclectic influences of Chania.
Basic Itinerary:
- • Depart from the port (30 minute drive)
- • Explore Agia Triada Tzagaroli Monastery (60 minutes)
- • Picturesque photo stop at Venizelos (15 minutes)
- • Visit Chania Town (around 60 minutes)
- • Return back to the port (25 minute drive)
- • This itinerary is subject to change in timings due to ship arrival / departures times and also local road traffic on the day.
At the end of your Essential Collection shore excursion you will be returned back to the cruise port.
