Overview
Abu Dhabi is the largest and most popular of the seven emirates due to its wonderful traditional architecture, rich heritage and luxurious hotels. The emirates has become very popular with tourists and has grown to be a worldwide shopping and entertainment destination.
One of the main industries of Abu Dhabi is oil, or Black Gold and you will learn how it is processed before visiting the renovated Alhosn Palace. The palace is more than 200 years old and was built by Sheikh Bin Zayed A|l Nahyam as a castle. Next on your tour will be the famous Emirates Palace Hotel. The hotel is the second most expensive in the world and is so luxurious it even has rooms decorated in gold and marble!
A drive along the beautiful Corniche gives a magnificent panoramic view over the city as you head to the famous Sheikh Zayed Mosque. The mosque was built by artisans from all over the world including Italy, Germany, Morocco, India and China and their individual influences are woven into the structure in a beautiful way. The mosque can hold up to 40,000 worshippers and is as big as five football pitches.

During Ramadan, dress codes get more conservative. Dubai is usually relatively liberal, but during the Holy Month women should cover their shoulders and their legs down to their knees when out in public, carry a pashmina or a shawl if you do not want to wear lots of layers. For men, it is shirts or T-shirts as usual but make sure shorts are knee length. Expect uncomfortable stares or even a fine if you ignore this rule during the Holy Month.
-
Everyone has to abide by the do not eat, drink, smoke or chew gum in public between sunrise and sunset rule and that includes tourists. These laws can be punished with fines or even jail time if broken. Restaurants will not be open during the day, but there are some designated cafes open for non-Muslims hidden away behind curtains in most shopping malls; ask at mall information booths for their location if you need a soft drink or a snack. It is easy to get dehydrated if you are not used to the summer heat
-
There are a number of wheelchairs available for use. Your Visitor Experience Coordinator will be happy to assist you upon arrival. Currently there are no extra amenities or special services for the elderly or special needs visitors.
