Overview
Jump back in time as we discover the ancient traditions of the Fujairah people. Fujairah is one of seven emirates and is the only one with a coastline on the Gulf of Oman. This allows for beautiful scenery of un-spoilt beaches and rugged mountains as you travel to your first destination-the Fujairah Museum. Situate opposite the ruler's palace, you'll see the museum which include artifacts found in archaeological digs at Qidfa and Bithnah. Other items on display including articles dating back over 4,500 to the Bronze Age. A superb discovery in Qadfaa was an ostrich egg dating back 2200 years. The local ancestors used the egg as a bowl and is still in excellent condition- you'll find this and many more interesting items belonging to ancient Fujairah people during this very educational tour.
Following the museum you will visit the Fujairah Fruit, Vegetable and fish market. You will see colourful stalls filled with the season's freshest fruit and vegetables and have the chance to test your bartering skills as you haggle with the vendors to buy a souvenir. This market is a wonderful treat to the eyes.
The coastal road with its amazing views will lead you to Al Badiya-the oldest Mosque in the UAE. It is not known when the mosque was built and due to it being built from mud and stone there is no way of finding it. Archaeologists have estimated that is was built somewhere around the 15th century, however some put the date at 1000 years before Islam arrived in the UAE! Respect and peace are requested during your visit as the mosque is still very much operational and regular prayer meeting are still held.
Fujairah is still a growing country and is not as built up as the other Emirates which makes it a perfect stop to uncover the ancient world.
