Overview
Please note, this is a small group tour with a maximum capacity of 17 passengers.
Our journey begins by taking us to Panjim City, which is the capital of the Indian state of Goa.
Here we'll walk through the Portuguese Latin Quarters of Fontainhas (or Bairro das Fontainhas, in Portuguese). Many of the traditional houses were built in the 18th & 19th centuries and their red-tiled roofs are what attract tourists to this area year after year.
We then proceed to the visit the churches of Old Goa or Velha Goa (meaning 'old Goa' in Portuguese). Did you know, the remains of Velha Goa are a UNESCO World Heritage Site?
Old Goa contains churches affiliated to various congregations, including the Se Cathedral (the seat of the Archbishop of Goa), the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, the Church of S. Caetano, and notably, the Basilica of Bom Jesus - which contains the relics of Saint Francis Xavier.
We'll continue by taking a drive to the Spice Garden / Plantation, to be welcomed in a very traditional way before heading back to the cruise port.
Basic Itinerary:
- Depart from the cruise port
- Drive towards the Panaji (30 minutes)
- Drive past Old Goa Town (30-40 minutes)
- Walk to Basilica of Bom Jesus (30-40 minutes)
- Continue to Se Cathedral of Assisi (30-40 minutes)
- Visit to the Spice Plantation (90 minutes)
- Free time (60 minutes)
- Return back to the port
