The scenery of New Zealand is legendary, especially its West Coast, home to subtropical rain forests, crashing surf and ebony black sand beaches. You will visit this area, the famous Waitakere Ranges and have the opportunity to explore the forest on foot. Come face to face with a huge 1,000 year old Kauri tree, one of New Zealand's icons. Kauri are the world's 2nd largest trees by wood volume, surpassed only by Sequoia trees in California. Since this is a private tour, you will be able to customize your itinerary, but your guide has some wonderful ideas in mind.
A visit to the Kumeu Wine Country, Auckland's Heritage Wine Region will no doubt be on your mind as well. And close by is a Gannet Colony at Muriwai black sand beach. If you're lucky, you might see these plunge-diving birds going after a snack of squid or fish. You might also choose to visit New Zealand's oldest riverside pub, the Riverhead Historic Tavern or perhaps a craft brewery where you can hoist a mug of the local brew.
The Auckland regions boasts rich fertile soil, providing ideal growing conditions for luscious strawberries and other local produce to tempt your palate. Your guide will be more than happy to oblige you with a stop to acquire some of the local fruits and veggies. If you happen to be on this tour during certain weekends, you might have the opportunity to experience the local Farmers Market. Return to Auckland after a very special day in nature on the West Coast with its amazing scenery, great food, and wine!
