Some places we will visit during the tour:
Bush resources: At various places well demonstrate seasonal bush resources used by local Aboriginal people for thousands of years, and describe the relationship of Litchfields landscape features to local indigenous culture.
Tolmer Falls: During our tropical summer, from about December to May, well visit the spectacular stone country of Tolmer Falls. The stone country comes alive at this time of year with a profusion of life and a gushing of water into Tolmers deep chasms. Clear creeks provide opportunities to swim in unspoilt natural pools, out of the reach of crocodiles.
Ngunalang (Woolaning Spring): Well visit Tesss grandfathers private land, the site of his former sawmill camp. In beautiful surrounds by a crystal clear, spring-fed rainforest creek well serve you a freshly grilled lusciously presented lunch of ocean-caught barramundi, marinated kangaroon and crocodile eye fillet.
Nyunydjurr (Wangi Falls): Well visit iconic Nyunydjurr, its plunge pool a popular dry season swimming spot and a special place for indigenous women. Explore the nearby lush rainforest, home to a variety of birds and restless fruit bats. For the keen there may be an opportunity for a more strenuous loop walk over the falls.
*During summer from about December to May, when water levels reach a pre-determined point, park authorities close the Wangi Falls plunge pool to swimming due to strong currents and the potential for saltwater crocodiles to enter the plunge pool. Viewing the falls, however, and doing the walk around and over them, is safe and especially spectacular at this time of year.
Paykadamulla (Florence Falls): Well se the spectacular falls at Paykadamulla from the plateau-top lookout, a short walk from the car park. The keen can tackle the 175 stairs that lead down to the clear, refreshing water of Paykadamullas stone-walled gorge and plunge pool. Easier walks allow swimming too, in the warmer water above Paykadamulla.
