Overview
This excursion can accommodate guests with limited mobility or guests using wheelchairs in wheelchair adapted vehicles. Wheelchair adapted vehicles can seat up to 4 guests plus 1 guest in their wheelchair.
Te Puia is recommended for those in manual wheelchairs or with limited mobility as there is little to no rough terrain. Whakarewarewa Village (has a cheaper admission fee) but is very difficult for manual wheelchairs. A powerful electric wheelchair or mobility scooter would find this accessible.
You will be met at the port by a professional Venture Ashore representative. Your day will begin driving past the beautiful beaches of Mount Maunganui and Papamoa, considered among the best in New Zealand.
You then have the choice of what you would like to see next on your journey, either the Rotorua Redwoods, which offers a short accessible walk as well as its famous treetops walk or the sacred Blue and Green Lakes. A stunningly beautiful photo opportunity can be had here, the lakes are nestled among the rolling green hills.
Continue on to one of Rotoruas most popular tourist destinations, either Te Puia or Whakrewarewa Village to see the geothermal activity and cultural show.
Te Puia is home to 60 hectares of geothermal wonders and the world famous Pohutu Geyser, you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the native Kiwi in the bird house. You will also find Te Puia is the center for traditional Maori arts. Whakrewarewa Village also gives you the chance to encounter bubbling mud pools and geysers. While this village offers lesser views of the Pohutu Geyser, it better showcases the Maori way of life.
Both locations offer a wonderful cultural show included within the admission fee, we highly recommend watching a show for the full experience. We also recommend you join in on one of the free regular guided tours available at both locations.
Enjoy some lunch in the cafe at either Te Puia or Whakrewarewa Village, alternatively you can be taken to a local restaurant recommended by your driver guide, at an extra charge.
Have your camera ready while you take a tour of the Rotorua lake front for when you see the unusual black swans, St Faiths Church, the Government Gardens and Rachels pool.
Your driver will take you along a different route back towards Tauranga and weather permitting, drive up the Minden Lookout for a breath-taking view of the Tauranga coastline.
Before you return to your cruise ship, take a brief trip to Sulphur Point or Kulim Park for a brilliant photo opportunity of your cruise ship with the iconic Mount Maunganui as the backdrop.
Your driver guide will then return you back to your cruise ship in plenty of time for your ships departure.
