Overview
The capital of Dhofar, Oman, Salalah reached the height of its prosperity in the 13th century thanks in large to the incense trade. Salalah is known as the perfume capital of Arabia, due to the abundant display of Frankincense trees lining the paths through the mountains. Whilst driving through the mountain roads keep a look out for local wildlife which includes leopards and hyenas normally found only in Africa, You are sure to be surprised by the great quantity of coconut trees growing naturally along the roads. These features add to the pure uniqueness of Salalah and make it a wonderful inclusion on your cruise.
First on your tour is the Tomb of Prophet Ayoub, better known as Job of the Old Testament. The tomb is located on the hills overlooking the coastal town and visitors regularly offer incense and other gifts out of respect for the prophet.
To the west of Salalah are many stretches of beautiful beaches including Mughsayl, one of the most popular due to its rare blow holes in the rocky shelf close to the shore. Stand on the grids on top of the blow holes and you may be lucky enough to witness this amazing site. Some of the water is known to have shot 15 metres into the air!
Your tour will continue to the Al Husn Suq where you will be free to explore the various shops and stalls and purchase some unique gifts including local handmade crafts and perfumes from the region.
Your tour concludes with a breathtaking panoramic tour of the city before returning to the port.
