Overview
During your city tour of Guayaquil, you will get to know the most interesting sites of this tropical and busy pacific-metropolis. You will visit the pleasant Parque Simon Bolívar, known as well as “Plaza de Las Iguanas”. On its western side, you will find the Cathedral (1948), in classic gothic style. The 1896 city fire destroyed the original, 1547-built wooden cathedral. Only the small quarter Las Peñas, in the north of the city, was preserved and is now the oldest and last picturesque vestige of the colonial Guayaquil.
On your journey, you will travel along the border of the Río Guayas; you will appreciate the beautiful “Malecón”, the city’s promenade and pride of the Guayaquileños. This promenade built in Italian renaissance style (1924-28) and restored as part of the city’s regeneration program. On this waterfront walk, you will find entertainment, culture and nature. With some luck, you will have the opportunity to see a naval training vessel. The Palacio de Gobernación (the province-government seat) opposite built in 1922.
You will stop to visit the new anthropological museum where you will learn about the different cultures that have lived in Ecuador over hundreds of years.
Later, you will drive past the cemetery near Cerro El Carmen and have time for handicraft shopping before driving back to the pier.
