Overview

This full-day tour features the old district of Valparaíso, the garden city of Viña del Mar and Santiago de Chile.

With a fond farewell to your ship, and your tour begins with a drive through the city of Valparaiso, heading North to the seaside resort of Viña del Mar. You will see the resort's famous landmark, the floral clock. Continue through the central valley, crossing the coastal range in a two-hour scenic journey to Santiago. En route, stop where you can sample a typical tasty Chilean snack of Empanadas with local wine.

Santiago is a city of contrasts, with remnants of its Colonial past to the ultramodern, high-rise buildings of the financial centre, this metropolis will surprise you. You begin by heading south through the downtown area, passing the Club Hípico, a beautiful horseracing track in the older residential area of the city. You proceed alongside the Parque O’Higgins and the Cousiño Palace, built between 1870 and 1878 for the wealthy Cousiño family.

From here, you head along the famous Alameda, Santiago’s colourful main avenue. See the lively Plaza de Armas, the city’s main square, crossing the Mapocho River and the bohemian Bellavista district on the way to the San Cristóbal Hill. From one of the hill`s view points, you will have the finest views of Santiago and the Andes Mountains (funicular ride is not included). As a note, big busses have only access to the first place of San Cristobal Hill (and will not go up to the top) so the panoramic view is less impressive.

During your tour, lunch will be served in a typical local restaurant. Afterwards, a short stop will be made for those wishing to buy some lapis lazuli, a semi-precious blue stone found only in Chile and Afghanistan. To round off your tour, you will drive through the modern residential areas of the city with their daring architecture. In the afternoon, you start your transfer to your hotel or to the international airport.
